This home and the adjacent property were used as a field hospital during the Battle of Augusta. It is believed to have been built by Lewis Wells, a descendent of one of the founding fathers of Augusta.
During the Civil War, the home was occupied by Thomas Myers, a prominent merchant and the owner of the Myers building in downtown Augusta. His daughter Susan Myers married William Champe Marshall, a lawyer, orator and statesman, who also served as the Commonwealth’s Attorney and Mayor of Augusta during his political career.
